Overview

The Sédhiou Regional Development Agency (ARDS), on behalf of all local authorities in the region, is committed to revitalizing the HOM (Migrant Support Office), a support mechanism designed for migrants. The ARDS is also committed to promoting the HOM in countries that host diaspora communities from the Sédhiou region.

The project’s objectives will be:

  • To support the identification of migrants and migrant associations.

  • To facilitate contacts between migrants and organizations or projects responsible for promoting their investments in their localities of origin.

  • Facilitating dialogue and building trust between migrants and their local governments of origin, on the one hand, and between these authorities and local governments in the North and/or South, on the other, in order to promote decentralized cooperation; and

  • To support migrants in the design, implementation, and monitoring of individual and community projects in their communities of origin, in order to create decent jobs and combat all forms of irregular migration.

Expected Impact

This initiative is expected to:

  • Improve dialogue between the diasporas originating from the Sédhiou region and their home local communities;

  • Create decent jobs for young women and men in the Sédhiou region to reduce unsafe and irregular migration;

  • Contribute to the economic and social development of the local communities of origin of the diasporas through the promotion of decentralized cooperation; and,

  • Encourage local communities in the region to take their place in global coalitions of cities and regions.

Minimizing drivers of forced displacement, including climate change and environmental drivers

Realizing socio-economic inclusion

Engaging in regional and multilateral partnerships and increasing city-to-city cooperation
