Our Advocacy

The Coalition elevates the voice of local and regional governments in migration governance and forced displacement protection. Together, Coalition members work to develop a joint strategy for the GFMD Summits, International Migration Review Fora, and Global Refugee Fora, including coordinated advocacy messages and a joint mobilisation of a local and regional government delegation. 

The Coalition builds its advocacy agenda on the 2018 Marrakech Mayors Declaration, through which local and regional governments commit to advancing the Migration and Refugee Compacts and to taking direct action within their communities to improve the lives of migrants and refugees. Critically, signatories agreed it was essential to advance both Compacts in unison rather than addressing migrants and refugees as fundamentally separate populations.
